Travis Alexander’s sisters sobbed in the
background as Maricopa County Superior Court Judge, Sherry K. Stephens,
made the announcement this morning that the judge could not reach a unanimous decision
on whether or not to sentence convicted killer, Jodi Arias, to death. Judge
Stephens stated that the jurors repeatedly indicated they could not reach
consensus (hung jury). This verdict comes
after the second jury considered her case because the first jury, which
convicted her of murder two years ago, could not agree on whether or not to
sentence her to death.
After leaving the
courtroom, the family walked by the media, saying, “The real justice will be in
the afterlife, when Jodi burns in hell.” Meanwhile, Jodi Arias’ future home is
just over 86 square feet big, with a bare bed, sink and toilet.
Arias was found guilty in May of 2013 for
killing her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Alexander, after a lengthy trial that
began in January of 2013. On April 13, 2015, Judge Stephens will decide whether
Arias will be in prison for life or have the possibility for parole after 25 years.
The death penalty is no longer a possibility.
